International Women's Day 2017 @ RBS: A tribute to Women!

On March 8th, people around the world observed International Women's Day, a day to commemorate the struggle for women's rights and celebrate the political, social, economic and cultural achievements of women throughout history. The day represents an important opportunity for individuals, communities, and countries to celebrate the progress, great achievements, and contributions of women, raise and confront difficult questions and challenges, build broad support for women’s rights, and work towards the full and equal participation of women within all areas of society. RBSites organized the International Women’s Day on 10th March at RIET campus. Seeking the blessings of Almighty the programme began with the invocation by Ms. Hajna GS. The Welcome Address was proposed by Asst Prof. Ms. Viswathi Sushama Bhadran. Dr. R Sathikumar, Principal, RIET delivered the Presidential Address. The lamp lighting ceremony was blessed with the presence of Chief Guest and other dignitaries.

Ms. Vimala Menon, social activist, author and Secretary of Cheshire homes who has about 38 books published to her credit. She received the Kerala State Literary Award in the category of best Children’s Literature for her work “Orazhcha”, for her sensitive depiction of the experiences of a group of children. She is also the recipient of the 2004 SBT Award for her book ‘Mandakini Parayunnathu’. It paints the life of adolescents. In 2013 her book ‘Njangalkku Ithrayokke Mathiyo?’ book portrays differently-abled children. She was our Chief Guest for the day. She addressed gathering with her motivational and empowering speech on womanhood. She shared her personal experiences and witty incidences that truly grabbed the attention of the audience.

RBSites made this day a memorable one by showing their love and care to the senior faculty member Prof. Lakshmi R, Senior Professor and Academic Coordinator by celebrating her achievement as the “Woman of Substance Award 2017.” It was a moment of surprise and happiness. Chief Guest felicitated Prof R Lakshmi with the memento and Principal adorned her with ponnada. The inspiring message of Prof. Rajit K Nair, Director, RBS traveling through the memories of his Mother touched the hearts of the gathering. Dr Rajesh S Pyngavil, HoD, RBS delivered a well crafted speech on women's day and its importance which helped the students to get an insight on the day. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms. Sandra Caroline.

The RBSites performed mime portraying women empowerment which was remarkable. An exhibition on the creativity of young women in shaping our future was held at RIET featuring the art works by RBSites. The Chief Guest and other dignitaries inaugurated the exhibition on this year's theme BE BOLD FOR CHANGE. It showcased the pictures of women from different walks of life who achieved great heights and made the world proud and inspired. The Chief Guest expressed her solidarity by putting her signature on the box created by the students with the caption “WHO'S NEXT”. It is created to inspire and motivate the students of RBS and RIET.
